Bay Path College One America 2012

Bay Path College is a progressive, private woman's college in New England. Students are known by name and not a number on our campus. We offer a broad array of experiential opportunities to augment your in-class learning. Experiences range from internships to international, semester-long travel to short-term U.S. travel such as this 3 credit class and community service project on wheels.

We are The New American Woman's College. Hope you'll hop on board with us some year!

Last Stop

We make a final stop in the snow in Waterbury, CT. What should have been about a 41/2 hour trip turns into 7 hours as we hit storms along the way. Everyone is still in high spirits. What troopers!
We arrive safely back on campus at 5:00 PM on January 10th. So much to process from this very intense adventure.

Good-bye, Dr. Surbrug!

We leave Prof. Surbrug off on the New Jersey Turnpike. Don't worry, he had a ride the rest of the way to his home. Thank you, Dr. Surbrug, for all the history lessons along the way! See you next week!

Liberty Bell and Constitution Hall

What better place for our official last stop on our tour than at one of the world's best known icons of liberty and justice- the Liberty Bell.

In Front of Constitution Hall

Unfortunately, our last service project with PhiladelphiaCares.Org gets cancelled due to inclement weather. Half of us were going to work with youth in North Philly on arts and crafts and half were going to engage in sports. We do some last minute touring instead since our hotel is just two blocks from Independence Park.

Baltimore Aquarium

While some students visit the Reginald F. Lewis African American Museum, others opt for the 4-D Show at the aquarium in Inner Harbor.

Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

Students see a 40th Anniversary Tour performance by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. Reaction is that performances are unusual, provocative, interesting and enjoyable.

Karie, this stop is especially for you!

Paper Moon Diner - Baltimore

We have lunch at this cool and funky diner that Molly's mom sees on TV during our stay. She calls - she recommends - we seek and enjoy! Thanks Mrs. Dower!

Pulling Items Off Conveyor Belt

Our job was to pack boxes of supplies to get people through a couple of days while they wait for food stamps to be processed. We fill 8 pallets with 5,000 lbs. of goods during our brief stay. We can't fill a box with more than 5 of the same items, otherwise not enough variety. What do we see most? Green beans and corn.

Maryland Food Bank Mission

We arrive at the warehouse on Friday morning. 43% of those served by this facility are children under the age of 18. 59% of households served have a monthly income of less than $1,000.

Work for Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF)

We arrive at Clagett Farm, part of the CBF, to help install fences to keep cows from polluting streams that ultimately feed into the Bay. A tractor brings us first to the cow barn for feeding time.

Aspiring Pediatric Surgeon Mandi Meets Dr. Carson

We spend a few minutes with Dr. Benjamin Carson, Director of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Carson tells us to keep up the good work we are doing and wishes Mandi well on her journey to medical school.

Dr. Ben Carson Spends Time with Bay Path students

In between surgeries, Dr. Carson passes along inspirational messages to us on the importance of a broad education in a variety of subjects including Calculus, Art, Accounting, etc. He also stressed the importance of "thinking big" and having tolerance for difference.

We finally arrived here after an hour and a half ride turned into a three hour adventure as we got lost in the fog ascending Old Flat Top Road. Homer the Angel helped us out of the fog and to our chalet.
